Need to register a DBA in New Jersey?
If a company operates under a name other than its legal name, it must register a "Doing Business As" (DBA) name with the appropriate state, county, city, or town government. For example, Henry Johnson might register "Johnson Transportation" as a DBA. Similarly, "Jane's Flower Shop, LLC" might register the DBA, "Jane's Decorations".
Some government offices refer to a DBA as a "trade name," "assumed name," or "fictitious name". In New Jersey, LLCs register DBAs with the New Jersey Business Services Bureau. New Jersey DBAs expire after 5 years.
